I knew about the record but I didn’t think about it – Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has etched his name even deeper into Premier League history, equaling Sergio Aguero’s tally of 184 goals to become the joint-fifth highest scorer in the competition’s history.

The Egyptian forward hit the milestone in style, netting twice against Southampton in a dominant performance for Liverpool.

“I knew about the record but I didn’t think about it while I was playing. But I know about the record,” Salah said after the game.

“It’s a good record to be equalising; Sergio is a great player, he was a legend here for the league. So I’m happy about that and I’m happy about the win as well.”

This achievement also elevates Salah to third place on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, with 243 goals, surpassing Gordon Hodgson.

However, uncertainty looms over Salah’s future at Anfield. His contract is set to expire this summer, and negotiations for a new deal have yet to yield significant progress. Former coach Diaa El-Sayed has urged Salah to remain at Liverpool, emphasizing the legacy he has built over the past eight years.

Despite external interest, including lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, Salah’s commitment to Liverpool has been steadfast. His agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, stated in August 2023 that Salah was “committed” to the club, and Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad on Transfer Deadline Day.
