‘My father is a role model, and I’m proud to have his name’ – Etienne Eto’o

Etienne Eto’o, son of football legend Samuel Eto’o, has reiterated that he has a good relationship with his father amid reports of a feud.

The 22-year-old forward, born in Spain, has been showcasing his talent both with the club’s B team and the senior squad.

Eto’o’s journey with Rayo Vallecano began impressively when he debuted in the Copa del Rey against Villamuriel, scoring a goal just minutes after entering the pitch.

This performance highlighted his potential and set the stage for further opportunities with the first team.

His consistent performances with Rayo B, where he netted seven goals in nine matches, have not gone unnoticed.

This scoring streak led to his inclusion in the senior squad, where he continues to train regularly under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

Reflecting on his progression, Eto’o expressed gratitude for the support from his family and teammates.

He emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving his goals, acknowledging the influence of his father’s illustrious career.

“The relationship with him now is very good, that mental stability has benefited me a lot because it has coincided with my best moment,” Etienne said on Radioestadio Noche

“For me, having my father’s surname is a source of pride and I know that he is super proud and excited about this new stage of my life.”

“Seeing everything my father has been able to achieve, coming from nothing…for me he is a role model and his example helps me to keep going because I have always wanted to be a footballer.”

“This whole year has been a dream. I’m very grateful to Íñigo (Perez, coach) who saw something in me to give me this opportunity.”
