Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi says they are not giving up on their chances of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League despite their painful defeat to Liverpool.
PSG suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Premier League side in the first leg of the Round of 16 game at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, with Harvy Elliot scoring the only goal of the game.
With the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, at Anfield, Hakimi is confident in the chances of a win.
“We are disappointed to lose in this scenario, but we have been through it before this season, especially in the 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid on November 6,” Hakimi said in statements highlighted by the French newspaper L’Equipe.
“It is definitely a painful loss, but we are happy with our work and effort, and we are ready for the second leg and qualify from there with a deserved win. If we show the same character and desire that we showed at home, we will succeed and qualify from Anfield.”
“Liverpool respected us a lot because they know our capabilities, so the English team did not take any risks offensively, but wanted to achieve a result that would help them in the second leg, but we will try to win there, and we told ourselves after the match that we must hold our heads high and we have a whole week to prepare for the second leg,” he added.
The Parisian team will play Rennes next Saturday evening before their trip of England next week.
