Al Ahly has declined offers to play a friendly against Libya’s Al Ahly Benghazi and another against an Iraqi club between March 17 and 25.
A marketing company had proposed a match in Iraq against a top Iraqi League club after plans to stage the Al Ahly vs. Zamalek fixture there fell through.
However, a club source revealed to Kooora that Al Ahly opted out due to a demanding schedule. The team is set to compete in the first round of the coronation stage between March 9 and 12, followed by two League Cup fixtures on March 18 and 22.
Swiss coach Marcel Koller is also set to take a short break from March 13 to 16 to visit family in Switzerland before resuming preparations for upcoming challenges, including the Club World Cup.
Al Ahly will feature in the global tournament from June 14 to July 13, facing Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and Porto in the group stage.
Al Ahly will play Inter Miami on 15th of June, Palmeiras on the 19th of June, and Porto on June 24th.
