South African forward Lebo Mothiba has expressed his eagerness to play for Mamelodi Sundowns after completing a short-term deal.
The 29-year-old experienced forward joins Sundowns for the remainder of the season campaign with an option to extend after ending his stint with French outfit Strasbourg.
“This’s my home and this’s where it all began for me. I’m so grateful to be here and I can’t wait to get started” Mothiba said in club statement.
Mothiba has been without a club since parting ways with Strasbourg in May 2024 following the expiration of his contract.
However, the forward returns to South Africa in an attempt to rejuvenate his career with the club. Sundowns, who are presently vying for their 8th consecutive league title, view Mothiba as crucial addition to their attack.
Mothiba was handed a trial opportunity and impressed the technical team led by Miguel Cardoso, propelling the club to sign him.
Mothiba joins list of recent Sundowns signings including Jayden Adams, Lucas Suárez, Keanu Cupido and the return of Matias Esquivel from his loan spell in Argentina.
The squad reinforcements highlight Sundowns’ ambition to not only clinch the league title but also compete strongly in the CAF Champions League and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
