Club president kidnaps and tortures goalkeeper over match-fixing allegations in Cameroon

Victoria United’s president, Valentin Kwain, has been accused of abducting and torturing his own goalkeeper, Eric Parfait Djomeni, in a shocking attempt to extract a confession over alleged match-fixing.

According to reports, Kwain suspected the 19-year-old goalkeeper of deliberately influencing the outcome of two championship matches after allegedly placing bets on a gambling platform.

However, when police found no evidence to support these claims, Kwain allegedly took matters into his own hands.

Determined to force a confession, the club president reportedly ordered Djomeni’s abduction. The young goalkeeper was held captive for three days in an undisclosed location, where he was allegedly subjected to torture.

Despite the severity of the situation, both parties have since agreed not to pursue legal action, opting for a private resolution to avoid a prolonged and costly court battle.

In response to the disturbing allegations, the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (Synafoc) has voiced its strong support for Djomeni.

“Justice for Eric Parfait Djomeni! The young goalkeeper of Victoria United was kidnapped, held hostage, and tortured by the infamous president of his club, Valentin Kwain. Eric, we stand with you!” Synafoc communications director, Marcel Itiga Itiga, said in a statement.

Match-fixing scandals have plagued African football in recent years, implicating both players and officials. This latest incident adds to the growing concerns over corruption and misconduct within the sport.
