Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that Newcastle United’s prolific striker Alexander Isak would likely choose Liverpool over Arsenal if given the opportunity this summer.
The Swedish-born forward of Eritrean descent has been making waves in the Premier League, attracting attention from top clubs with his impressive goal-scoring record.
Isak, who has netted 19 goals in 24 Premier League appearances this season, has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in English football.
His tally is surpassed only by Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, solidifying his status as a top-tier goalscorer.
The 25-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal reportedly making him their primary target for the upcoming transfer window.
However, Wright, speaking on The Overlap, voiced concerns about Arsenal’s ability to secure Isak’s signature, particularly if Liverpool enters the fray.
“With what Alexander Isak has done and who he is, I would buy him for £120M, no danger. If we could get him, you need to chase that. I would be devastated if Arsenal weren’t in for him.
“I’d hate to see the scenario where it’s Liverpool or Arsenal. He would probably go to Liverpool. I’d like to think Mikel Arteta could convince him but look at Liverpool and Arne Slot. Slot hasn’t even got his own players in yet.
“That seems like a move attractive proposition but again, Arsenal will need to do the work. I would hate it if it was between Arsenal and Liverpool because he would probably go for Liverpool with the way it’s gone for Arne Slot.”
Liverpool’s interest in Isak comes amid reports of Darwin Nunez’s potential departure to Saudi Pro League clubs, creating a need for a top-class striker.
Slot, who has been cautious with transfers since joining Liverpool, may view Isak as the ideal candidate to bolster the team’s attacking options.
