Etienne made his LaLiga debut for Rayo Vallecano during their 1-0 loss to Villarreal.
The 22-year-old Cameroon forward entered the match in the 87th minute, substituting Álvaro García.
Prior to his first-team appearance, Eto’o showcased impressive form with Rayo Vallecano B, netting 17 goals in 21 matches in the Tercera RFEF.
His performance has been pivotal in positioning the reserve team second in their league.
Head coach Iñigo Pérez recognized Eto’o’s contributions, suggesting that the young striker could see increased playing time and potentially compete with Sergi Guardiola for a more prominent role in the attack.
Eto’o’s journey to this point includes stints with various clubs, such as Real Oviedo’s youth team, Vitória Guimarães B in Portugal, and Unión Deportiva Poblense in Spain.
“He will probably have more minutes of play and could even compete with Sergi Guardiola for second place in the attack line.”
Eto’o, meanwhile, said: “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, the one where you see that your efforts, those of my family, my mother in this case, the people who love me to help me get to this moment, well, it was worth it.
“I am very happy about that.”
He joined Rayo Vallecano’s B team in July 2024 and has since made significant strides, including scoring in his debut for the first team during a Copa del Rey match against CD Villamuriel.
The young forward’s LaLiga debut comes 26 years after his father’s first appearance in the Spanish top flight with Real Madrid on December 5, 1998.
