South African club Kaizer Chiefs fined for fans’ misconduct in Soweto derby

South African outfit Kaizer Chiefs have been sanctioned over fans’ misconduct in the Soweto derby, held on February 1, 2025.

The fans of Kaizer Chiefs threw missiles into the pitch, violating the Premier League rules and regulations.

However, the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has cracked the whip, finning Kaizer Chiefs huge sums of money to be paid with immediate effect.

Kaizer Chiefs must pay a previously suspended fine of R100,000 before an additional R75,000, with R50,000 and R25,000 suspended for 12 months.

Meanwhile, the club must also cover 50% of the hearing costs.

Kaizer Chiefs have been fined three times this season and sixth in two years in the South African league.

In a statement, the club reaffirmed its opposition to disruptive fan conduct and emphasized how such behavior hurts the team’s finances and reputation. The club has asked fans to respect the game and follow the ideals of love and peace.

Kaizer Chiefs now have more time to get ready for a pivotal matchup against Mamelodi Sundowns after their match against Royal AM was postponed.

Following a crushing 4-0 loss to SuperSport United, Amakhosi wants to recover and turn their campaign around.
