Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up why he substituted youngster Ethan Nwaneri during the team’s defeat to West Ham United on Saturday in the English Premier League.
The England-born forward of Nigerian descent started the crucial game for the Gunners but was substituted in the 81st minute.
After the substitution, there were fears that Ethan Nwaneri had picked up an injury.
However, speaking in his post-match interview, Mikel Arteta allayed the injury fears, insisting that he only substituted the forward because Nwaneri was fatigued.
“It was just fatigue, I think,” Arteta said.
In his post-match interview, Arteta also opened up about the red card shown to teenager Lewis-Skelly.
“I haven’t seen it back but honestly, I would focus on what we have to do. I don’t know if the decision was right or wrong, I haven’t seen it to evaluate it. But I think we should have done better today, it wasn’t enough.
“I have to see the action back to evaluate it.”
