The Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) has officially announced the cancellation of the friendly match against Cameroon, citing a lack of budget as the primary reason for the decision.
Initially accepting the invitation for the friendly match to aid in the preparation for the African Cup, scheduled for January 8, 2024, at the Olembe stadium in Yaunde, Equatorial Guinea found itself in a challenging situation.
The friendly encounter was part of the teams’ preparations for the upcoming African Cup, with both nations set to participate based on their own merits.
However, complications arose when Cameroon proposed relocating the match to Dubai, a proposition rejected by the Equatoguinean side.
With a mere 19 days remaining until the 2023 AFCON starts, the Equatorial Guinea soccer team faces significant hardships.
The government has yet to provide the necessary resources for the preparation of the national team, exacerbating the team’s challenges as they strive to make a mark in the upcoming tournament.
The Nzalang Nacional will continue with their preparations at their base in Malabo before jetting off to Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament.
