The stage is set for Senegal’s 30th participation in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the reigning champions gearing up for a formidable campaign under the stewardship of Augustin Senghor and the Football Federation.
In a recent meeting of the Federation’s executive committee, key arrangements and strategies were unveiled to secure a triumphant defense of their continental title in Ivory Coast.
Augustin Senghor, at the helm of the Lions, articulated the ambitious goal of retaining the trophy while acknowledging the heightened expectations from the 23 other nations.
Speaking on the thorough preparations, Senghor emphasized, “We got into the habit of preparing well, and we reviewed all the activities related to the preparations.”
He also highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and the Federation, underscoring the formation of a joint monitoring committee crucial for the success of this pivotal mission.
The Lions’ regrouping is scheduled to commence on December 30 in Dakar, with a farewell friendly match against Niger preceding their departure for Yamoussoukro.
Senghor expressed hope for overwhelming support from fans during the match, stating, “We want this to be an opportunity for our Lions to say goodbye to the public. We hope that the supporters will come en masse to push the Lions towards victory.”
The Federation is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a seamless trip to Yamoussoukro and meticulous on-site arrangements.
Senghor assured that “all aspects are under control,” outlining plans for a direct flight to Yamoussoukro on January 9 via the national carrier, AIR Senegal.
The team’s accommodation, carefully selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is being branded in the vibrant colors of Senegal to foster a sense of national pride.
In terms of logistics, the FSF has taken proactive measures to secure hotels and address ticketing needs, collaborating closely with the Ministry to facilitate a smooth and well-coordinated experience for the entire delegation.
With meticulous planning and a spirit of determination, Senegal is poised to embark on their AFCON journey with the confidence of champions, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead in the quest for back-to-back titles.
