Kaiser Chiefs temporarily regained the lead in the South African championship standings by defeating Free State Stars 2-1 during the 18th day, accumulating 39 points, just two behind Orlando Pirates. Despite initially trailing 1-0 to the Togolese international Womé Dové and his Free State Stars teammates, Kaiser Chiefs turned the tide with Bernard Parker scoring following free kicks awarded near the penalty area by Daniel Bennett, the referee of the Tunisia-Togo match in CAN 2013 (1-1).
Reflecting on the match, Womé Dové remarked to Africa Top Sports, “We didn’t lose, but we didn’t deserve anything; we were leading by the score before this defeat.” He continued by emphasizing the importance of returning to the championship after the CAN and expressing optimism about the remaining 12 games, stating, “We know that the club’s ambition is not to play the leading roles, but we players had decided to take an honorable place at the end of the championship.”
