It’s been confirmed that Nabil Maaloul has been appointed as the coach of the Carthage Eagles, the national football team of Tunisia. This decision comes following the resignation of Sami Trabelsi, the former coach, due to the disappointing results of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2013.
Nabil Maaloul secured the coaching position over Khaled Ben Yahia, who was also in consideration for the role. Maaloul, who previously coached Esperance de Tunis, has been given a two-year contract and will be tasked with leading the Carthage Eagles through the qualifications for the 2014 World Cup, as well as the Chan and Can tournaments in 2015.
To support Maaloul in his coaching duties, two deputies have been appointed: Adel Sellimi and Nizar Khanfir. Notably, Khanfir had left his position with Sami Trabelsi against his will, and his return under Maaloul indicates a shift in the coaching staff for the national team. It will be interesting to see how Nabil Maaloul’s leadership impacts the performance and future trajectory of the Carthage Eagles.
