Samuel Eto’o displayed resilience and determination by playing and scoring for Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League despite facing death threats over the weekend. His goal came in a 3-1 victory against Hannover 96.
Eto’o has been vocal in criticizing the football federation of Cameroon and advocating for positive changes in African football. Despite the threats he received, he emphasized the need for a strong project and proper conditions to nurture the talent of the great generation of players in Cameroon. Eto’o highlighted issues such as unusable stadiums, poor locker room conditions, and challenging travel conditions that affect the quality of football.
In the face of potential danger, Eto’o expressed a courageous stance, stating, “I am in danger. When there is a lot of money and you denounce a system, people are sure not going to give you any favors. It’s not my first concern, which is to get people to understand that football belongs to everyone. Personal interests cannot deprive an entire people of joy. If I die, it’s because God wanted me to leave.”
Eto’o’s courage in speaking out against issues in African football is commendable, and he calls for support in addressing systemic challenges that hinder the progress of the sport on the continent.
