The Togo national football team, known as the Sparrowhawks, received a warm welcome upon their return to Lomé after their quarter-finals elimination in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Despite the fatigue of the players, the crowd of supporters and Togolese Prime Minister Awoomey-zunu gathered at the Gnassingbe Eyadema international airport to show appreciation for the team’s historic achievement in reaching the quarter-finals for the first time. The players declined to participate in a caravan, and there were issues with luggage not being transported on the plane.
