The refereeing in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) has faced significant criticism for consistent mistakes. In the semi-final match between Burkina Faso and Ghana, Tunisian referee Slim Jdidi made a controversial decision by giving a second yellow card to Jonathan Pitroipa for an unclear simulation in the penalty area. In response to the poor officiating, CAF suspended Slim Jdidi, with the duration of the suspension yet to be determined. The secretary general of CAF, Hicham El Amrani, expressed the organization’s dissatisfaction with the refereeing in the match and emphasized the need for a higher level of officiating.
