It seems that the Togo national football team, known as the Sparrowhawks, returned to Lomé after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) by Burkina Faso’s Stallions. The Sparrowhawks, led by coach Didier Six, arrived at Lomé airport on a Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
A significant celebration was planned, including a large caravan that would transport Emmanuel Adebayor Sheyi and his teammates to the esplanade of the convention center. The purpose of the event was to commemorate the historic qualification of the Eperviers (Sparrowhawks) to the quarter-finals, despite their elimination.
The match against Burkina Faso went into extra time, and the decisive goal was scored by Jonathan Pitroipa in the 105th minute, leading to Togo’s exit from the competition. Despite the elimination, it seems that the Togo national team and its achievement in reaching the quarter-finals were being acknowledged and celebrated upon their return to Lomé.
