Real Betis coach, Manuel Pellegrini, expressed optimism about the recovery of Senegalese right-back Youssouf Sabaly, who has been absent from the field for several weeks due to injury.
As discussions circulate regarding Sabaly’s potential participation in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, Pellegrini emphasized the honor for a club when its players receive international call-ups.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Pellegrini addressed the uncertainty surrounding Sabaly’s involvement in the AFCON, considering the player’s recent injury hiatus.
The right-back has been sidelined since September, raising questions about his fitness for the prestigious continental tournament.
Pellegrini, while refraining from making definitive statements about Sabaly’s selection, expressed hope for the player’s swift recovery, both for national team duties and club commitments with Real Betis.
The coach acknowledged the significance of having players represent their countries, underscoring the honor it brings to the club.
“It’s always an honor for a club to see its player be called up with its selection,” stated Pellegrini. “Youssouf (Sabaly) has been injured for some time, and I don’t know if he will be called up or not (for the AFCON).
Hopefully, he would recover as soon as possible to play, whether with his team or with us.”
The uncertainty surrounding Sabaly’s availability adds a layer of anticipation to the approaching AFCON, where Senegal aims to make a mark on the continental stage.
Pellegrini’s hopeful tone reflects the collective desire for a swift recovery for Sabaly, as both club and country eagerly await the defender’s return to action.
