CAN 2013/YAYA TOURÉ: “AGAINST ALGERIA, WE WILL NOT PLAY FOR REVENGE”

Yaya Touré, the Manchester City midfielder and a key player for the Ivory Coast national team, has emphasized that their upcoming match against Algeria is not a revenge game. He downplays the notion of seeking revenge for the defeat suffered by Ivory Coast against Algeria in the 2010 African Cup of Nations (CAN).

According to Touré, the primary focus of the Ivory Coast team is to progress in the competition and win their matches. He states that their goal is to go to the end of the competition and achieve success with the help of divine grace.

Vahid Halilhodzic, the coach of Algeria, was also the coach of Ivory Coast during the 2010 CAN, and the defeat against Algeria was a significant moment in the tournament’s history. Touré acknowledges that the CAN is a demanding competition and expresses the team’s regrets from previous editions. With the experience and unity of the current squad, they hope that the 2023 edition will be their year.

The upcoming match against Algeria holds importance for Ivory Coast, even though Algeria has already been eliminated from the competition. The Ivory Coast team aims to perform well and progress further in the tournament.
