Mustapha Yatabaré announces retirement after illustrious career

Malian striker Mustapha Yatabaré has officially retired from professional football at the age of 39, bringing an end to a career spanning nearly two decades.

His club, Gençlerbirliği, confirmed the news on Thursday, marking the conclusion of a journey that saw him play 467 matches, scoring 131 goals and providing 23 assists.

Though stepping away from the pitch, Yatabaré will remain involved with the Turkish club in a new capacity.

During his international career, he represented Mali 35 times, finding the net on seven occasions.

The forward began his professional career in France, where he played for clubs including Montpellier and EA Guingamp.

His time at Guingamp was particularly memorable, as he helped the team secure the Coupe de France title in 2014.

Yatabaré later established himself in Turkish football, enjoying successful spells with Trabzonspor, Karabükspor, Konyaspor, and Sivasspor before concluding his playing days at Gençlerbirliği.

Known for his strength and finishing ability, he leaves behind a lasting legacy in both French and Turkish football.
