Switzerland-born Nigerian defender Manuel Akanji has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions League clash between Manchester City and Real Madrid.

The Premier League powerhouse will travel to face Real Madrid in the Champions League leg return fixture, to be held at the Santiago Bernabéu next week.

The enterprising defender is facing time on the sidelines due to the injury he currently carrying, making him unavailable for the crunch Madrid clash.

His absence is expected to affect Manchester City defense as they seeks to overturn the scoreline in Spain to progress in the Champions League.

Despite injury setbacks, Akanji has managed 30 appearances for the Premier League outfit across competitions this season.
