Fasil Kenema pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Ethiopian Premier League leaders Ethiopian Insurance in Wednesday’s Week 18 clash, ending their opponents’ impressive 12-match unbeaten streak.
The lone goal came from Anwar Murad in the second half, who calmly chested down a ball inside the box before firing it past the Insurance goalkeeper. Murad’s goal marks his third consecutive league match with a goal, cementing his rise as a key player for the Gondar-based side.
Despite a tough and gritty encounter, Fasil Kenema’s organized defense kept Insurance at bay, making it hard for the leaders to break through and dominate possession. Following the win, Fasil Kenema’s head coach Wubetu Abate celebrated in grand fashion as his players dedicated the victory to him on his birthday.
Insurance still lead the league with 32 points, while Fasil Kenema are now eighth with 23 points. Meanwhile, the reigning champions, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, secured a 2-0 win over Hawassa Ketema as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.
