Ziad Jaziri takes helm as Tunisia’s technical director amid major overhaul

Ziad Jaziri, a key figure in Tunisia’s footballing history, has been appointed as the new technical director of the national team.

His appointment marks a significant shift in leadership within the Tunisia Football Federation (FTF), which is currently undergoing major reforms.

A former standout striker for the Carthage Eagles, Jaziri was instrumental in helping Tunisia win the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. The 46-year-old, who also had a successful club career with Etoile du Sahel, brings with him years of experience both domestically and internationally.

FTF president Moez Nasri is optimistic that Jaziri’s presence will boost Tunisia’s chances in upcoming continental and global tournaments. Jaziri’s first priority will be selecting a new coach to lead the national team through the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Despite recent rumors linking Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to the role, discussions have yet to conclude.

Given his extensive background in Tunisian football, Jaziri could advocate for a local coach, especially if the costs of hiring a foreign manager remain a concern.
