Senegalese midfielder Pathe Ciss nets winning goal for Rayo Vallecano against Leganes
Senegalese midfielder Pathe Ciss was the hero for Rayo Vallecano on Friday night, scoring the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Leganes in La Liga.
The 30-year-old played the full 90 minutes for the visitors and made his mark late in the game.
In the 78th minute, Ciss pounced on a rebound inside the box and expertly fired the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Rayo Vallecano the lead.
Leganes had a golden opportunity to equalise deep into stoppage time after a VAR review awarded them a penalty in the 96th minute. However, goalkeeper Augusto Batalla came to Rayo Vallecano’s rescue, staying composed to deny Miguel de la Fuente’s spot-kick in the 105th minute, securing all three points for his side.
Ciss’s crucial goal proved to be the difference on the night, as Rayo Vallecano walked away with a vital victory.
