Adel Taarabt has officially signed with Al Sharjah FC, bringing an end to his turbulent stint with Al-Nasr SC in the United Arab Emirates.
The Moroccan midfielder, who had fallen out with Al-Nasr management and coach Alfred Schreuder, will now continue his football journey in the Gulf region under new colors.
Taarabt’s move comes after weeks of speculation and controversy. His absence from training sessions and Al-Nasr’s match against Al Ain, officially attributed to “personal reasons,” raised questions about his future.
Frustrated with limited playing time and his role at the club, the 35-year-old expressed a clear desire to leave. Despite initial expectations of his departure from the UAE, he has chosen to remain in Emirati football, signing with Al Sharjah FC.
The move was confirmed on Sunday evening when Al Sharjah announced Taarabt’s arrival through a statement on social media, hailing the Moroccan star as a key addition to their squad.
“Officially, Adel Taarabt is royal,” the club’s statement read. “We welcome Moroccan star Adel Taarabt to the royal club. He strengthens the ranks of Sharjah for the next challenges. Welcome to your new home, Moroccan artist.”
Taarabt’s time at Al-Nasr saw him make 77 appearances and score 33 goals between 2022 and 2025.
Despite the recent turmoil, his contributions to the club were significant, showcasing the skill and creativity that earned him a reputation as one of Morocco’s finest talents.
Having played at the highest levels of European football with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers, and Benfica, Taarabt now brings his vast experience to Al Sharjah, the current leaders of the Emirati Pro League.
With 34 caps and four goals for Morocco’s national team, the “Moroccan artist” remains a valuable asset, even as his career approaches its twilight years.
