BREAKING: Nqobile Magwizi wins in a landslide for Zimbabwe Football Association presidency

NQOBILE Magwizi

Nqobile Magwizi has been elected into the new presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association in a move that is monumental for the country’s football.

The victory was overwhelming, as he won 61 votes out of 72 in an election that took place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Harare.

This landslide victory is an inspiration of trust and confidence the football community has in Magwizi’s vision to revive the sport in the country.

Magwizi’s election came at a critical point after years of turmoil that resulted in Zimbabwe’s suspension by FIFA and the putting in place a Normalisation Committee to bring sanity back into the federation.

His ascendancy to the throne ushers in a new era, and everything is pegged on his leadership in terms of rebuilding the sport from grassroots to a professional level.

The new ZIFA president vowed to make transparency, governance reforms, and infrastructure development top priorities.

Magwizi’s commitment to restoring Zimbabwe’s reputation on the global football stage ignited optimism among players, fans, and all football stakeholders.

When he gets to office, by then, the football fraternity expects less talk but concrete actions from now on to take Zimbabwean football forward-from resolving challenges that affect local leagues and ensuring national teams go back into competitive action, among others-the tenure of office that Mr. Magwizi has promised it is likely to be transformative.
