The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, believes Kim Lars Björkegren is more than capable of guiding the Black Queens to success.
The Swedish coach has been appointed as the new head of Ghana’s senior women’s team on a two-year contract, taking over from Nora Hauptle, whose contract was not renewed.
In an interview, Asante Twum expressed confidence in Björkegren’s experience and abilities, stating that the new coach has the right qualities to lead the team to victory.
“Two days ago, we announced a new head coach for the Black Queens which is refreshing. Kim Lars Björkegren is coming in on a two-year contract,” he said on Accra-based Asempa FM.
“He has been in women’s football for a very long time. After Nora Hauptle left, there were a lot of complaints but eventually, we went through the same process we used in bringing in Nora.
“Kim is a champion but I know he has not worked in Africa before and this will be his first stint in Africa.
“We believe that Kim Lars has the competence to lead the team and so I am pleading that just like how we supported Nora Hauptle, let us support him as well so we can compete and challenge for titles.”
Asante Twum also hinted that the Black Queens will play friendly games next month as part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament scheduled to be hosted in Morocco later this year.
“Next month, Black Queens will be engaged in friendly games as part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” he added.
Kim Lars Björkegren is expected to be officially introduced as the head coach of the Black Queens next month.
