South African outfit Orlando Pirates are reportedly leading the race to sign Stellenbosch defender Fawaaz Basadien in the ongoing transfer window.
The 28-year-old left-back has been a subject of interest for several clubs in the South African top-flight due to his outstanding performance.
Pirates are said to be leading the race for the acquisition of the defender but faces a stern competition from rivals Mamelodi Sun downs and Kaizer Chiefs who are also desperate for the services for the player.
Basadien’s current contract with Stellenbosch is expected to elapse in the summer of 2025.
Pirates had fell short to Mamelodi Sundowns in the acquisition of Junior Mendieta and Iqraam Rainers and are determined to beat their rivals this time to sign the highly-rated defender.
The left-back has racked up five goals and provided four assists in 21 appearances for Stellenbosch this season.
