Seko Fofana set for Rennes return after passing medical

Seko Fofana has successfully completed a medical ahead of his anticipated move to Stade Rennais, marking a return to Ligue 1 for the Ivorian midfielder.

The 29-year-old, currently on loan at Saudi club Al-Ettifaq from Al-Nassr, has expressed a strong desire to return to France, a move that now edges closer to completion.

Rennes are nearing a €20 million agreement to secure his services, according to reports from Le Parisien.

Fofana, a 2024 Africa Cup of Nations winner, previously showcased his talent in Ligue 1 during his time with RC Lens.

His performances earned widespread acclaim, and his return to French football has been eagerly anticipated.

The medical examination, conducted in Paris on Monday, confirmed his fitness to join Rennes, paving the way for the finalization of the deal.

Fofana reportedly turned down an offer from another Gulf State club, opting instead for the move to Roazhon Park.

The presence of Arnaud Pouille, the former RC Lens president now at Rennes, is believed to have been a key factor in his decision.

This transfer continues a trend of players leaving the Saudi Pro League for European clubs, with Fofana following the path of Jota, who also made a similar switch to Rennes.

Fofana’s arrival is expected to bolster Rennes’ midfield options as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the remainder of the season.

For Rennes supporters, his return to Ligue 1 is seen as a significant acquisition, bringing both experience and quality to their campaign.

Further announcements regarding the official confirmation of the transfer are expected in the coming days.
