CHAN Qualifiers: History not kind to us against Ghana – Nigeria coach ahead of reverse fixture

Super Eagles B stand-in coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has urged his team to focus on the present and future as they prepare for a decisive African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Ghana.

The first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium ended in a goalless draw, setting up a winner-takes-all clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s previous struggles against Ghana, Ogunmodede, who also manages NPFL side Remo Stars, emphasized moving past historical setbacks.

“We know history has not been sincere with us as a country. So we’ve decided not to pay attention to what history has done to us,” Ogunmodede said.

“We pay maximum attention to the present and what the future holds for us. We know how important it is for us [to qualify]. If we qualify, we have [a] good future for ourselves—for the players, for the coaches, and for the country and the incoming generation of footballers in the country.

“We need to give everything to be a good market for the league. That is, to whom much is given, much is expected.”

The Super Eagles B team will enjoy the advantage of playing at home when they host Ghana in Uyo, as they aim to secure a ticket to represent Nigeria at the upcoming tournament.
