Islam Slimani, the 36-year-old forward and Algeria’s top scorer, could be set for a mid-season return to European football amid growing friction with CR Bélouizdad.
The striker, who rejoined the Algerian club last summer, has expressed dissatisfaction with his substitute role and recently declined inclusion in the squad for their CAF Champions League match against Stade d’Abidjan, which ended in a 1-0 victory.
Tensions between Slimani and both coach Abdelkader Amrani and the club’s management have escalated. While he has resumed training in an effort to de-escalate the situation, his departure during the winter transfer window remains a strong possibility.
Reports suggest that his representatives are actively exploring potential destinations, with Switzerland and Italy emerging as the most likely options.
According to La Gazette du Fennec, Slimani could make his debut in the Swiss league, though specific clubs have yet to be named. Meanwhile, Serie A’s Como has shown renewed interest.
The Italian club, owned by his former AS Monaco teammate Cesc Fàbregas, had pursued Slimani over the summer and may make another approach this January.
Despite limited playing time this season—featuring in just nine games with three goals—and his absence from Algeria’s national team since the last Africa Cup of Nations, Slimani’s European pedigree remains intact.
