Dutch attacker of African descent, Cody Gakpo, has lauded his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah for his outstanding performances, describing what the team is witnessing from the Egyptian star as “very special.”
Liverpool are keen to keep Salah, but a new contract agreement has yet to be reached. Following their 6-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Salah confirmed that there was no update regarding his future at the club.
That match saw Salah climb to fourth on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, and Gakpo expressed his hope that the prolific forward will continue to rack up goals at Anfield for many years to come.
“It’s very special what we are all witnessing,” Gakpo told the club’s media team. “The amount of goals he scores, but also the assists he provides, the way he plays the game—how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and be dangerous. It’s from a very high level.”
Gakpo added that he is grateful to have Salah as a teammate, emphasizing the mutual benefit of their partnership.
“I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his teammates. We try to make him better, and he is trying to make us better as well.”
January promises to be a nervy time for Liverpool, as Salah, along with key players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, could be free to discuss potential departures.
