The future of Otto Addo as head coach of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, remains uncertain, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expected to announce a decision in the coming days.
Henry Asante Twum, the GFA’s Director of Communications, revealed during a recent interview with Akoma FM that consultations regarding Addo’s tenure have taken place.
Asante Twum explained that various stakeholders, including government representatives, the Ministry of Sports, GFA partners, and members of the coaching staff, have been involved in the discussions.
These consultations were designed to evaluate Addo’s performance and that of his team.
There have been consultations on Otto Addo and his staff. There have been divergent views from the government, the ministry, our stakeholders and the coaches.
Some recommendations have been made and very soon the FA will make public the decision on the future of the coach and his staff,” Asante Twum said.
The growing pressure on Addo follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a result that has led to criticism of his leadership.
Among those voicing discontent is Fred Pappoe, a former vice-president of the GFA, who expressed his concerns over the team’s underperformance.
If we are convinced that Otto Addo is the only problem with the Black Stars, then we can consider replacing him,” Pappoe said during an appearance on the Akoma Sports show.
Despite the mounting criticism, Addo retains some backing within the GFA’s executive council, leaving his position in a state of uncertainty.
This divide has intensified speculation about his future, with many awaiting an official announcement from the GFA to clarify the situation.
The decision is anticipated to be made public soon, and it could have significant implications for the national team as they prepare for future international fixtures.
The outcome will determine not only the direction of the Black Stars but also the trajectory of Ghanaian football in the coming months.
