Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru has shared insights into the challenges faced by his club, Commercial Bank Ethiopia Sports Association (CBE SA), during the current Ethiopian Premier League season.
The defending champions have struggled significantly, recording only two wins, three draws, and four losses, placing them in 16th position with just nine points after nine matches.
Bashiru, who joined CBE SA from Ethiopian Insurance (Medhin) after their historic league title win last season, acknowledged the team’s difficulties in an interview with Pan-Africa Football.
“Our performance this season hasn’t been great. We are having trouble winning matches,” he stated. Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the team has failed to convert these chances into goals.
The 28-year-old ruled out the possibility of retaining the league title, focusing instead on avoiding relegation.
“Our priority now is to win games and build confidence,” he said.
Having played in four of the nine matches this season, Bashiru aims for improved performances to help his team escape the relegation zone and regain their winning form.
