The Romanian Superliga witnessed a fiery yet goalless Bucharest derby as Rapid Bucuresti held Dinamo Bucuresti to a 0-0 draw at the Stadionul Arcul de Triumf on Sunday evening.
The result marked the seventh draw between the two sides in their storied rivalry.
Both teams had their moments in a tightly contested first half. Dinamo’s Denis Politic tested Marian Aioani with a thunderous strike, forcing a spectacular save, while Rapid’s Aaron Boupendza rattled the crossbar early on, denying his side an opener.
The second half saw fewer chances but no shortage of drama. In the dying moments of added time, an altercation resulted in red cards for German-Ghanaian defender Christopher Braun of Rapid and Raul Opruț of Dinamo. Despite a potential game-changing foul on Daniel Micovschi by Dinamo’s Olsen, referee Marian Barbu opted for a yellow card, sparking protests from Rapid fans.
The draw leaves Rapid in eighth place, two points shy of the play-off positions. Dinamo, meanwhile, sits comfortably in fifth. Both teams resume their campaigns in January.
