Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has expressed excitement following Josh Acheampong’s commitment to a new five-year deal with the club and is unwilling to let him leave on loan.
The announcement came earlier this Wednesday, ensuring the young defender’s future with the club amid previous uncertainties surrounding his contract negotiations.
At just 18 years old, Acheampong has already made waves on the international stage, having represented England at the Under-17 level during the 2023 European Championships and the Under-17 World Cup.
Maresca is eager to keep the promising talent close, rejecting any suggestions of a loan move.
“Very, very happy [new deal],” said Maresca at a pre-match press conference. “With Josh it has been quite clear, he was with us in pre-season.
“After two, three days he really impressed me. Since pre-season, I was trying to understand the situation. Now finally the club found an agreement.
“We are all convinced that Josh can be a great player for this club. My personal opinion is that he has to stay close to us [rather than a loan].”
