Egypt international Ahmed Mostafa Zizo has criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after losing the best Player in Africa award.
Zizo and Zamalek president Hussein Labib were present at the CAF Awards ceremony held in Morocco on Monday night.
Unfortunately, Zizo, who plies his trade for Zamalek missed out on the award as South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper clinched the award.
“It’s not the end, it’s just the beginning of a new challenge. Thank you for your support. We all know how things go in the African Union. Thank you to the family, friends and supporters. I love you all.”
Williams was pivotal for South Africa, who finished third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast early this year.
He also won the South African league title for the second time with Sundowns this season, and was rewarded for this brilliance with the national team and the club, by being nominated among a list of 10 goalkeepers for the Golden Ball “Ballon d’Or” award, which is known as the “Lev Yashin” award, the famous goalkeeper.
Zizo, on the other hand, contributed greatly to Zamalek’s coronation with the African Confederation Cup title against Renaissance Berkane, then won the African Super Cup last September at the expense of traditional rival Al Ahly, a historic title for Zamalek achieved for the fifth time.
