Borussia Dortmund’s summer signing Serhou Guirassy has opened up about the tense moments surrounding his 2024 transfer from VfB Stuttgart, a deal worth around €18 million.
The Guinean striker’s move to BVB was thrown into doubt after a knee injury during international duty raised red flags during his medical check in Dortmund. Speaking to Sport Bild, Guirassy revealed the emotional rollercoaster he experienced during the process.
“I was initially disappointed because I really wanted to come to Dortmund,” admitted Guirassy. “There was a moment when I felt the move might fail, and that would have been a bitter blow. I had deliberately chosen this club and couldn’t imagine missing out.”
Despite the setback, Guirassy remained optimistic. “My career would have moved forward elsewhere, whether in Stuttgart or another club. I’ve always been someone who looks ahead.”
Fortunately for both Dortmund and Guirassy, the deal was finalized, allowing the prolific forward to don the black and yellow jersey—a move that could prove pivotal for the club’s ambitions.
