Ismael Bennacer nears AC Milan return after lengthy injury layoff

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer is edging closer to a full return to action following a prolonged spell on the sidelines due to a calf injury.

The Algerian international, who has been out since mid-September, has now reached an advanced stage in his recovery.

Bennacer recently returned to Milanello, the club’s training ground, after an intensive rehabilitation program at the renowned Aspetar Centre in Doha.

His return has been met with optimism within the Rossoneri camp, as his absence has coincided with a challenging period for the team in Serie A.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Milan’s clash with Atalanta on Friday, head coach Paulo Fonseca expressed his satisfaction with Bennacer’s progress while urging patience as the midfielder continues to rebuild his match fitness.

Ismael is in good physical shape.

Seeing him back at Milanello is a great satisfaction, Fonseca said.

He still needs a little time before he fully joins the team.

Bennacer himself shared his excitement in a video posted on AC Milan’s social media channels, emphasizing his determination to return stronger than ever.

Nothing beats Milanello and San Siro. With willpower, I will come back even stronger!” he declared.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations winner has played a pivotal role in Milan’s midfield since his arrival in 2019, providing tactical balance and creativity.

His absence this season has been keenly felt, with the Rossoneri struggling for consistency and currently sitting in a disappointing seventh place in Serie A.

Although the club has not confirmed a specific timeline for Bennacer’s return, reports suggest he could make a comeback shortly after the winter break.

His reintegration into the squad would provide a significant boost as Milan aims to revive their campaign and climb the Serie A standings.

Fans and teammates alike will be hoping that Bennacer’s return will mark a turning point for the Rossoneri, with his composure and vision in midfield expected to reignite the team’s push for success.
