Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta addressed the decision to leave Kelechi Iheanacho on the bench during the 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Monday night. Despite initial expectations of the Nigerian forward featuring as a substitute, he remained unused, leaving fans speculating.
Pimienta attributed the decision to injuries affecting his squad.
I would have liked to use everyone available.
Kelechi couldn’t come on because of Lokonga’s issues, and Agoume had to step in,” he explained.
The coach also highlighted contributions from other players, such as Saul and Peque, who played pivotal roles in managing the challenging situation.
Saul’s experience and Peque’s dynamism between the lines were critical, according to Pimienta.
Iheanacho, 28, has participated in seven La Liga matches this season but will be looking to secure more opportunities as Sevilla navigate their campaign.
