Guinea’s Syli National A’ team is set to face Guinea-Bissau in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The match will take place on December 20, 2024, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Due to the unavailability of a stadium in Guinea that meets international standards, the Guinean team has been forced to host its fixtures abroad.
This relocation continues a recent trend for the nation’s football teams.
The Guinean Football Federation announced the match schedule on November 21.
Kick-off for the Abidjan clash is at 4 p.m. GMT, while the return leg is set for December 28, 2024, at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.
Both teams were exempt from the first round of qualifiers for CHAN 2024, which is being hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The double-header offers both sides a crucial opportunity to secure a place in the prestigious tournament, which is exclusively for players competing in their domestic leagues.
The match in Abidjan marks another chapter in Guinea’s ongoing efforts to compete at a high level despite infrastructural challenges.
