The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the five finalists for the prestigious 2024 CAF Young Player of the Year award, with Senegal’s Lamine Camara, the reigning champion, poised to defend his title. Camara, a standout midfielder for AS Monaco, is a strong contender for a historic back-to-back win after a stellar season.
Camara has enjoyed an impressive year, playing 41 matches for both his club and national team.
After his move from FC Metz to AS Monaco earlier this season, the 20-year-old has made a significant impact, scoring six goals and providing four assists.
His performances on the field, especially his explosive growth since joining Monaco, have placed him firmly in contention for the coveted award.

The young Senegalese star faces tough competition from several talented players.
His AS Monaco teammate, Eliesse Ben Seghir, is also a finalist.
The Moroccan forward had an excellent season, scoring seven goals and registering four assists in 37 appearances.
His performances earned him a call-up to the Moroccan national team, further cementing his place among Africa’s brightest emerging talents.
The shortlist also features two Ivorian players: Karim Konaté, who plays for Red Bull Salzburg, and Oumar Diakité, an attacking force for Reims.
Both have impressed with their performances in European club football, showcasing skill and potential.
Completing the list of finalists is Yankuba Minteh, a dynamic winger from Gambia, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League.
Minteh’s contributions to both club and country have garnered attention, making him a strong contender for the award.
With such an exciting pool of young talent, the competition for the 2024 CAF Young Player of the Year title is set to be fierce.
Camara, having already established himself as one of Africa’s brightest stars, will be eager to secure his second consecutive title, but his rivals are determined to make their mark.
The winner will be announced at the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony, where African football excellence is celebrated, highlighting the continent’s top players, coaches, and teams across various categories.
