Ademola Lookman misses Super Eagles training ahead of Rwanda clash

20241116 195338

Ademola Lookman was absent from Saturday’s training session as the Super Eagles geared up for their final Group A match against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed that the Atalanta forward sustained a knock during Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Benin Republic.

Lookman was substituted late in that game, with Frank Onyeka taking his place.

The team’s medical staff is monitoring Lookman’s condition, and his availability for the match against Rwanda will be assessed during the Super Eagles’ final training session on Sunday.

Lookman’s absence adds to the team’s growing list of unavailable players.

Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has already been ruled out after picking up an injury in the same match.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was excused from the squad following the passing of his father.

Monday’s match, which will be held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, presents a crucial opportunity for the Super Eagles to solidify their position in the qualifiers.

Despite the setbacks, the team remains optimistic.

Coach José Peseiro is expected to make necessary adjustments to the starting lineup to compensate for the missing players.

The squad has demonstrated resilience throughout the qualifiers, and fans are hopeful they can deliver a strong performance against Rwanda.

The Super Eagles’ preparations have been underpinned by a focus on maintaining their rhythm and tactical discipline.

With Lookman’s potential absence leaving a gap in the attacking lineup, other players will have the chance to step up and make an impact in this decisive match.

Kickoff for Monday’s encounter is set for 5 p.m.

local time, and the Super Eagles will aim to close out their qualification campaign on a high note in front of their home crowd.
