The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has asked the Libyan Football Federation to respond within three days to the formal complaint made by the Nigerian Football Federation, after an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Libya and Nigeria was canceled.
The match, which was set to take place at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15, could not proceed due to complications the Nigerian team faced upon arrival in Libya.
The Nigerian team was forced to land at Al Abraq Airport instead of Benghazi due to technical issues at Benina Airport.
However, their stay at Al Abraq stretched for over 13 hours without food and drink due to a passport system failure, leaving the team in uncomfortable conditions.
Despite having obtained permission to enter Libya, the situation remained unresolved, and Nigeria boycotted the match and returned to their country.
CAF has referred the matter to its Disciplinary Committee, requesting reports from Somali match observer Amir Abdul Hassan and security coordinator Rachid Mejiba.
These reports, along with Libya’s response, which has a deadline of until October 20, will be reviewed before any decision is made regarding potential violations of CAF regulations.
CAF’s investigation will determine the next steps and any disciplinary actions to be taken.
