Eyad El-Askalany, the Egyptian defender playing for Rostov FC, has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a Russian Premier League match against Krasnodar FC. The 19-year-old had come on as a substitute but was forced to leave the pitch after just seven minutes due to the severe knee injury.

This injury marks yet another setback for El-Askalany, who had already missed Egypt’s Paris 2024 Olympic campaign earlier this year due to an ankle injury.

Despite a promising start to his stint at Rostov FC, his time on the field has been hampered by a series of fitness issues.

Before this latest blow, El-Askalany had played the full 90 minutes against FC Orenburg in the Russian Cup and had started to earn more minutes off the bench in league matches.

Since his transfer from Ismaily to Rostov FC last season, El-Askalany has found it challenging to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.

So far, he has made just nine appearances for the club, struggling to establish himself in the team.

This ACL tear is likely to keep him sidelined for an extended period, further complicating his efforts to secure consistent game time and solidify his position in the squad.

This injury not only puts his immediate future at Rostov FC in doubt but also raises concerns about his long-term prospects, both at the club and on the international stage.
