AS Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, has officially confirmed that Senegalese international Ismail Jakobs is set to join Galatasaray. The announcement comes as Jakobs was notably absent from Monaco’s squad for their recent match against RC Lens, further hinting at his impending departure.
Despite the closure of the summer transfer window in most European leagues, Turkey’s transfer market remains open.
This timing allows Galatasaray to complete their acquisition of Jakobs, a deal that is expected to materialize in the coming days.
Thiago Scuro provided details about the transfer while speaking to the press after Monaco’s 1-1 draw with Lens.
“It’s a situation that’s ongoing,” Scuro stated.
“We only make things official when everything is finished and signed. Jakobs has to go to Galatasaray for the medical and the final administrative procedures.
We can potentially make this official in the coming days,” he added.
Jakobs, a 25-year-old left-back, arrived in Istanbul on Sunday evening for a medical examination, as reported by L’Équipe.
The transfer will see him move from AS Monaco to Galatasaray on a loan deal with an option to purchase.
The loan is valued at €1 million, while the option to buy Jakobs outright stands at €7.5 million.
Jakobs joined AS Monaco three years ago for a transfer fee of €6.5 million.
During his tenure with the French club, he made a notable impact but now faces a new challenge with Galatasaray, a club with ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
The transfer represents a significant opportunity for Jakobs to showcase his talents in Turkey’s Süper Lig, following his role in Senegal’s victorious campaign at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
This move is expected to further his career development while providing Galatasaray with a valuable addition to their squad.
As Jakobs completes the final stages of his transfer, both clubs and fans eagerly await the official confirmation of this new chapter in his football career.
