Sierra Leonean international Tyrese Fornah has completed a loan move to Salford City for the 2024-25 season. The 24-year-old midfielder, who has been a key figure at Derby County, will spend the upcoming season with the League Two side as he looks to make a significant impact on their campaign.
Fornah’s move comes after a successful season with Derby County, where he played a role in the club’s automatic promotion from League One.
The loan deal is expected to provide Fornah with regular first-team football, allowing him to further develop his skills and contribute to Salford City’s ambitions.
Salford City confirmed the signing, highlighting Fornah’s potential to bring dynamism and creativity to their midfield. “I am a ball player, I like to go forward, carry the ball, be exciting.
That is my strength and I hope to be able to show it regularly for the club. I like to intercept the ball, win it back, but I am also a forward-looking player; I like to carry the ball forward, be exciting and show my ability with the ball,” Fornah said, expressing his eagerness to make an impact.
Fornah’s football journey began in the academies of Reading and Nottingham Forest. He made his senior debut for Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup match against Chelsea in January 2020.
Following his debut, Fornah gained experience through several loan spells, including stints at Casa Pia in Portugal, Plymouth Argyle, Shrewsbury Town, and Reading. These experiences helped shape him into the versatile midfielder he is today.
His performances during these loan spells caught the attention of Derby County, who signed him on a permanent basis. At Derby, Fornah continued to develop, contributing to the team’s successful promotion campaign.
However, with competition for places in the squad, the decision was made to send him on loan to Salford City, where he is expected to be a regular starter.
Salford City, managed by Neil Wood, is aiming for a strong season in League Two, and Fornah’s arrival is seen as a boost to their midfield options.
His ability to break up opposition play and drive forward with the ball will be crucial as Salford looks to challenge for promotion.
Fornah’s move to Salford also represents an important step in his career, providing him with the platform to showcase his talent consistently.
As he settles into his new surroundings, both Fornah and Salford City will be hoping that this loan spell proves to be mutually beneficial, setting the stage for a successful season ahead.
The midfielder’s versatility and determination are expected to make him a fan favorite at Salford City, and his performances will be closely watched by both Salford and Derby County as they monitor his progress throughout the season.
