Nigerian winger Babatunde Akinsola has signed a three-year contract with Liga Portugal side AVS Futebol SAD, confirming his permanent move to the club after a successful loan spell last season. The 21-year-old, who previously played for Real Valladolid, made the switch official on Thursday, marking a new chapter in his promising football career.
Akinsola, who first joined AVS on loan in January 2024, quickly established himself as a key player for the Portuguese team.
His impact was evident as he made 17 appearances during the latter half of the 2023–24 season, contributing one goal and one assist.
His performances were enough to convince AVS to secure his services on a permanent basis, a decision that reflects the club’s confidence in his potential.
Expressing his enthusiasm about continuing with AVS, Akinsola said, “I’m very happy to be back. It’s been a fantastic few months, and that made my return easier.
I feel like I can show my worth in Liga Portugal and help AVS secure their place in the league. I’m very motivated and looking forward to getting started.”
Akinsola’s journey in football began in his hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, where he started his career with Valiant FC, a non-league club.
His talent soon took him to Sweden, where he joined the youth ranks of Vasalunds IF. It was with Vasalunds that he made his senior debut in the Superettan in 2021, showcasing his skills on a larger stage.
In 2022, Akinsola caught the eye of scouts from Real Valladolid, earning a contract with the Spanish club following a successful trial.
During his time at Valladolid, he made 10 appearances for the first team, including a notable La Liga debut against Sevilla in May 2023.
Despite limited opportunities in Spain, Akinsola’s potential was clear, and his move to Portugal offered a fresh start.
Now, as a permanent member of AVS, Akinsola is eager to make his mark in Liga Portugal.
His goal is to help the team secure its position in the league while continuing to develop his own game.
The three-year deal provides him with the stability and platform he needs to grow as a player and contribute to his new club’s ambitions.
Akinsola’s transfer to AVS represents a significant step in his career, one that could see him become a standout figure in Portuguese football.
With his talent and determination, the young winger is poised to make a lasting impact at AVS and beyond.
