Transfer talks heat up for Mohamed Amoura
Fennec Mohamed Amoura’s stellar season with Union Saint-Gilloise (D1 Belgium) has caught the attention of top-tier teams, including Brighton & Hove Albion from the Premier League.
Despite Brighton’s keen interest, the transfer faces significant hurdles.
Amoura’s impressive record of 21 goals in 45 matches has made it increasingly unlikely that US Saint-Gilloise supporters will see the Algerian international striker (27 caps, 6 goals) stay.
The club’s standout performer, who stands at 1.70 meters, was instrumental in their Belgian Cup victory and runner-up finish in the 2024 national championship.
With these achievements, the 24-year-old attacker seems poised for a move to a more competitive league.
Brighton, having finished the 2023-2024 season in a respectable 11th place in the Premier League, sees Amoura as a vital addition to bolster their attacking options.
A move to the Premier League would mark a significant milestone for Amoura, who has rapidly ascended from Algeria’s domestic league to European football, showcasing his dedication and talent.
However, there is a significant complication. Both Union Saint-Gilloise and Brighton share the same owner, Tony Bloom.
This ownership overlap initially appeared advantageous for facilitating Amoura’s transfer. Nonetheless, UEFA regulations complicate matters.
According to La Gazette du Fennec, UEFA has imposed restrictions to prevent conflicts of interest, particularly following the clubs’ encounter in the Europa League last season.
These restrictions prohibit player loans or transfers between the two clubs until September 2024 and forbid shared commercial ventures and scouting resources.
With the Premier League transfer window closing on August 30, these restrictions pose a substantial barrier.
Even if a workaround is found, Amoura would be unable to join Brighton’s squad until after September, missing the first four matches of the Premier League season.
Additionally, he would miss the crucial pre-season period, hindering his integration into the team.
Amid these complications, Olympique de Marseille (OM) could seize the opportunity.
The French club, also interested in Amoura, might capitalize on the situation to secure his transfer. OM is reportedly demanding €20 million for the talented forward.
His potential move to Marseille might depend on the departure of existing forwards such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Faris Moumbagna, and Illiman Ndiaye.
Amoura’s future remains uncertain, with multiple factors influencing the final outcome.
As the transfer window progresses, clubs like Marseille might intensify their efforts to sign the Algerian star, while Brighton grapples with UEFA’s restrictions.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining where Amoura will showcase his talents next season.
